A sustainable approach to floristry and events
Recognizing that we have much to do to take care of our planet and continue to be gifted with the beauty of flowers and nature, Sassy Diva has made efforts to lower our carbon footprint as much as possible for our events. Here are a few ways we work towards our goal of 95% plastic free!
Green Waste & Cardboard All of our green waste is composted. We carefully sort out any items that cannot be composted and send the rest to the local green waste facility. Cardboard is either used to deliver arrangements multiple times, and then sent to recycling. After events, clients have the option to have us take the flowers back to our shop and we will deconstruct them and send them to local nursing homes and senior homes to bring some cheer to the occupants.
Floral Preservation One of our exciting new services is floral preservation! We can take your wedding bouquet and preserve it as a keepsake. A great way to keep waste down and have a special keepsake to remind you of your special day! Click here to get more information!
Floral Foam In 2023, Beth made the decision to no longer purchase floral foam. It has taken the team some time to adjust to the ease of use that floral foam gives us, but we have practiced with other mechanics such as moss, agrawool and Oshun Packs. We also use water tubes that we carefully clean and store so we can use them time and time again, large containers with a deep water source and chicken wire to create foam free installation!
California Grown Flowers We understand the impact that the floral industry has on the environment with shipping costs and air travel. We make a point to “buy local” whenever possible including floral co-op Gather Flora and garden rose growers, Green Valley Growers.
Single Use Products and Plastics As a company we aim to use our props, fresh, dried, and preserved product as many times as possible. When we can, we reuse foliage and plants in our day-to-day designs, and if we use silk florals, we will re-use these blooms time and time again, to minimize the environmental impact.
Community Partners We have a membership with the recycling company Ridwell which takes all the plastic sheeting that comes from the flowers we purchase. We are hopeful that we can join the conversation about ending use of single use plastics in the industry, but for now, utilizing Ridwell has reduced a vast amount of waste.
We also collect vases through our local community Buy Nothing page and have a program for customers to return vases to us and receive upgrades on future orders.
Meet the O.G. Sassy Diva
As a certified International Event and Wedding Professional (IEWP) and floral designer, Beth has been planning and creating floral designs for as long as she can remember. Her passion for flowers comes from time spent with her mom in their garden and in a family friends flower shop. Her first planning job was her brothers dinosaur themed 5th birthday party. Creativity flows through her veins, on stage and off stage, she spent a lot of time in the theater which gave her tools to think fast and adjust to many situations. Her style is not relegated to just one look, but she can adapt to the many different styles her clients bring to the table while putting her own unique spin on the designs. From bursts of color to soft muted tones, she finds beauty in all of it.
While attending floral design school at College of San Mateo, she became the president of the school club and later became a founding member of Floral Artists of the Bay Area, guiding the group for 12 years bringing floral education to the Bay Area and connecting floral designers all over the world.
When not creating works of art with flowers or walking clients through the intricacies of planning their event, she is at home with her husband, three kids, two dogs, three cats and rabbit.
